Walking in Portugal’s Medieval Alentejo

Walking in Medieval Alentejo, Portugal: Impressive medieval villages and untouched nature.

Portugal is a land that offers a great diversity of natural, architectural, cultural, gastronomic aspects, giving any visitor the opportunity of admiring unique diverse characteristics in a space of short distances. Come along with Guido and Sara as they tell you a bit more about why they love this part of Europe.

Our favourite corner of Portugal

Our favourite corner of the country and where our walking holiday is set, is the province of Alentejo, a short 180km from Lisbon – during which time you will leave the hustle and bustle of our cosmopolitan capital and enter the tranquility of inner Portugal.

Here you’ll feel the pleasure of direct contact with nature, be it the birds that flock the landscape, the trees that border the road, the sight of the river Tagus that flows to Lisbon or the people that simply (still) lead a calm life style. Plus, you will uncover its many hilltop medieval villages and learn all about their history, traditions and arts & crafts. A perfect blend between a natural and cultural local encounter.

Getting in touch with your surroundings

In this natural atmosphere it’s possible to take advantage of the many ways of contacting with the environment: a hike along the river Tagus, in Belver, enjoying the almost untouched vegetation that borders its banks; hiking in the medieval town of Castelo de Vide discovering its many medieval treasures; discovering the fortified hilltop village of Marvão where one can have a bird’s eye view of rolling plains extending to neighbouring Spain.

About Sara and Guido

The walking holiday is led by Sara and Guido. They are both from the region and share a great passion for Alentejo. They know the area really well and are very knowledgeable about its history, the medieval villages and the stunning natural landscape you’ll discover along the way.

Too good to be true?

Not at all! You only need to find out for yourself! Happy adventures.
