The Coast to Coast self-guided walking holiday will take you through some of England's finest scenery as you pass through three National Parks and cross the Pennine spine of the country.

Wainwright's 190 mile Coast to Coast walk begins at the shore of the Irish Sea, and ends at the North sea. This classic long distance path is one of the most popular in the UK and simply an outstanding journey.

The trail takes in some of the best scenery in three contrasting national parks: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park.

Accommodation along the Coast to Coast path

The holiday provider uses a mix of exceptional hotels, Inns and guest houses on or close to the route of the Coast to Coast. An example of accommodation that is often used is shown in the pictures below. Each of the places is know to them personally, and they will make sure that you have a comfortable and pleasant stay at the end of your day. All the accommodation has ensuite or private bathrooms for twin or double share. In certain circumstances it may not be possible to provide a private bathroom and they will let you beforehand if this is the case.

In most cases your accommodation will be able to prepare a packed lunch for you if you notify them on the evening you arrive. Alternatively there are shops in several of the villages and towns along the route if you want to make up your own lunches. There are also opportunities on several days to purchase snacks or a hot lunch along the way, and you will be provided with full details of all your options. On all of the evenings you will have a choice of places to eat which on most days will include the option to take a meal at your accommodation (if booked in advance.)

This Coast-to-Coast walking holiday itinerary is spread over 14 walking days which will average around 13.5 miles each day (with higher mileage for days spent mostly in valleys, and lower daily mileage in hilly country). However, the holiday provider can also organise a trip over fewer or more days as you wish. It is possible to this holiday in two parts, splitting the Coast to Coast walk in two sections of about a week long each, or it is possible to walk the whole length in 16 day holiday. The price for this walking holiday is for walking part 1 of the Coast to Coast Walk, with luggage transport included. It is also possible to do this walking holiday without luggage transport at a reduced price. More details on this in dates & availibity below.

The Coast to Coast walking holiday can be divided into two parts, for two 9 day holidays, orthe whole length can be walked as one 16 day walking holiday with 14 walking days. Below, the itineraries of the two parts are described:

Coast to Coast walk part 1:

Day 1 - Arrive at your accommodation in St Bees

Day 2 - St Bees to Ennerdale Bridge. 14 miles

Day 3 - Ennerdale Bridge to Rosthwaite. 14.5 miles

Day 4 - Rosthwaite to Grasmere. 9 - 12 miles (depending on options selected).

Day 5 - Grasmere to Patterdale. 9 - 11 miles (depending on options selected).

Day 6 - Patterdale to Shap. 16 miles

Day 7 - Shap to Orton. 7 miles

Day 8 - Orton to Kirkby Stephen. 13 miles

Day 9 - Depart Kirby Stephen

Coast to Coast walk part 2:

Day 1 - Arrive at your accommodation in Kirby Stephen

Day 2 - Kirkby Stephen to Keld. 13 miles

Day 3 - Keld to Reeth. 11.5 miles

Day 4 - Reeth to Richmond. 10.5 miles

Day 5 - Richmond to Ingleby Cross. 23 - 25 miles (depending on options selected)

Day 6 - Ingleby Cross to Clay Bank Top. 12.5 miles

Day 7 - Clay Bank Top to Glaisdale. 19 miles

Day 8 - Glaisdale to Robin Hoods Bay. 19 miles

Day 9 - Depart Robin Hoods Bay

St Bees can be reached by train from Manchester airport via Carlisle. The journey including connection time in Carlisle is between 3 hours 30 mins and 4 hours.
