This guided walking holiday is designed to combine the pleasure of walking with spectacular scenery, stunning monuments, great views and nature’s rich pleasures.

The area provides some of the most spectacular coastal walking along the Mediterranean, authentic unspoilt fishing coves sitting beneath rocky cliffs covered in pine tree forests. Along the way you will have the chance to admire well-preserved medieval villages scattered among the thick beech tree forests of La Garrotxa national park with over 40 volcanic cones and a backdrop of the Catalan Pyrenees.

Accommodation in Catalonia

Our base for the first 4 nights is the pretty village of Begur. Perched on a small hill overlooking the Mediterranean, the village is stooped with history as is evident from the striking silhouette of the medieval castle and maze of narrow streets. The old town is home to numerous monuments left as legacies of significant moments in the town’s history and make it an unbeatable place to spend your first nights. Begur benefits from spectacular views whichever way you turn. From the Begur Massif to the extensive coastline washed by the Mediterranean Sea, the small fishing coves and the Romanesque centre.

Walking in Catalonia and Costa Brava

A nice panoramic view of the Costa Brava coast area A nice bird-eye view of volcanic landscapes

The emphasis on this holiday is variety. Imagine a holiday with the best coastal walking along the prettiest stretches of the Costa Brava dipping in and out of colourful fishing coves flanked by marvellous cliffs topped by typical Mediterranean vegetation. Shady forest tracks wind their way through the route of the medieval villages with classic examples of early Romanesque monasteries and churches. Ending the week walking through some of the best examples of volcanic landscapes in the Iberian Peninsula including a river walk following the different lava flows dating back 650,000 years. Easy to moderate walking.

Catalonia and Costa Brava walking holiday itinerary

People walking on the coast A nice panoramic view of the Costa Brava region

A typical walk ranges form five to twelve miles, easy to moderate and mainly easy terrain under foot. Walks are designed to be lengthened or shortened depending on ability. Great care and attention to detail has been afforded to ensure maximum variety throughout the week.

Day 1 - Arriving day After being personally collected from Barcelona airport we take a short drive to the medieval village of Begur where the first 4 nights are spent at the Hotel Rosa. We get together in the evening for a delicious dinner at the Fonda Caner restaurant.

Day 2 - Coves and coastal paths of the Ronda. We have selected the best this walk has to offer along some of the most unspoilt sections of the Mediterranean. A delightful walk that really has it all. Soft pine tree forests, little fishing coves, glorious fine sandy beaches and spectacular views over the Mediterranean. All this followed by a delicious lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Day 3 - The focus of today’s walk is the medieval villages of the Baix Emporda. Walking through vineyards, cork-oak woods and fields of sunflowers. A walk encompassing nature, history and cultural heritage combined with excellent cuisine from locally sourced fresh produce. Passing through the medieval villages of the region where the old world charm has been preserved intact.

Day 4 - Back along the coastal path, today’s walk will take us along one of the most emblematic places along the Costa Brava with wild panoramic views over the sea and calmer and magnificent vistas over Calella de Palafrugell and the San Sebastian lighthouse. A picnic lunch overlooking the enchanting Port Bo.

Day 5 - A short drive along the Baix Emporda takes us to Girona, your base for the next 3 nights. Stopping off for a refreshment along the way at one of the medieval villages, you will be given maps and suggested routes of what to see and visit in historic Girona. Staying in a top class hotel by the old quarter should make for 3 very pleasant nights.

Day 6 - A short drive takes us to La Garrotxa national park with over 40 volcanoes and numerous lava flows over a rolling landscape of holm oak and beech tree forests. A fascinating walk followed by an equally impressive lunch at one of the areas best restaurants.

Day 7 - In contrast to the volcano walk from the previous day we follow a beautiful river walk beneath the basalt cliffs showing 3 lava flows dating back 650,000 years. A splendid local lunch with time in the evening to explore Girona.

Day 8 - Departure day After breakfast your hosts will personally take you to Barcelona airport. Please consult us should you wish to extend your holiday in Barcelona.
