A walker's paradise - a guided walking holiday through the ever-changing Lot landscape.

This walking holiday gives you an opportunity to visit castles, medieval towns, farmers' markets, as well as time to explore on foot the varied countryside with its scattered villages, where time has stood still.

Your base will be a 13th century hilltop village, situated on one of the "chemins de St. Jacques" (or the pilgrim network of paths leading to Santiago de Compostella). Walks either begin on your doorstep or after a short drive. You choose the dates you want, the length of stay and the programme of walks.

Your host and guide has been living in the area since 1991 and walks 12 months of the year.

Accommodation in the Lot Valley

Accommodation is in our independent guest wing, consisting of two double-bedded rooms, a spacious bathroom and a separate WC. There is WiFi, tea/coffee making facilities, a small fridge and a washing machine in the guest wing. The accommodation is exclusively yours during your walking holiday.

Guests have free access to the terrace, the central courtyard and the garden that extends to the surrounding woodland. In warm weather you can enjoy dinner on the terrace while watching the sun set.

A continental breakfast is usually served in the sitting room, but some clients choose to enjoy their fresh croissants and orange juice in the courtyard on sunny mornings.

Lunches are either picnic lunches or taken in local restaurants. Dinner consists of either home cooking at Atelier de la Rose or in one of the many family-run local restaurants.

Walking in the Lot Valley

Guided walks are between 4 and 18 kms and can be part of a programme that gives you time to visit historic sites, vineyards and markets. Atelier de la Rose is ideal for walkers who do not necessarily wish to walk all day, everyday; it is for those who also want time to appreciate a region, known for its unspoilt landscape and its gastronomic traditions.

A programme will be designed to suit your requirements. However a minimum level of fitness is required. You should be comfortable about walking 8 kms (about 2 hours walking), and climbing uphill for some 10 minutes. A 3-day and a 6-day programme is available on our web site, but these are samples and can be modified.

All the walks involve ascending and descending slopes. While the walking is fairly easy there are some short distances that are difficult. Therefore some good walking shoes that support the ankles are best. However trainers will suffice (and are easier to pack).
