This guided walking holiday takes place in the Cairngorms - the largest National Park in Scotland. You will experience the varied and beautiful landscape of Scotland.

During this tour you will explore the Muir of Dinnet and Loch Muick. The Muir of Dinnet has a long and rich history for the Scots and Picts, it boasts a wide variety of habitat such as woods, bogs and grasslands which is home to a large range of wildlife. The landscape of Loch Muick embodies the beauty of the Scottish highlands and is one of the best places to see Red Deer in Scotland.

Accommodation in Dinnet

You will be staying in a large tipi style tent. The tent is split into 3 rooms, 2 bedrooms and a large living area. Their is also a portable toilet with a tent and a shower with a tent.

The breakfast is normally porridge. Lunches and dinners are also included. These tend to be vegetarian meals with fresh ingredients when possible.

Walking in Dinnet

The terrain we will be walking through is varied from woodland to mountains. The trekking is easy to moderate but can be tailored to fit your needs. On this tour we will be walking into the woods looking for Roe deer and Red squirrels, sitting at the loch in the morning looking for otters and walking into the highlands in search of Red deer.

There is also a varied bird life such as Ravens, Red kites, Buzzards, Red grouse, Great spotted woodpecker, Scottish crossbill, Dipper, Lapwing, and Golden eagles just to name a few. You will also learn about Scottish folklore, astronomy.

Dinnet walking holiday itinerary

Day 1 - You arrive at base camp and can relax with a warm drink and some food. Once you are settled in we will go for a short walk so you can get acquainted with your new surroundings

Day 2 - After breakfast we will explore the Nature reserve looking for Red Squirrels, Roe deer and a variety of bird life such as the tree creeper, raven and the peregrine falcon. We will stop for lunch during the day and once we return to camp we will have our dinner and relax.

Day 3 - In the morning we will go and sit at the loch looking for otters. After breakfast we will go to the Burn O'Vat - a local geographical feature and then walk through the woods surrounding it looking for wildlife such as the Red squirrels. Stopping for lunch during the day, once we get back to camp we can have our dinner and relax and do some astronomy with a telescope.

Day 4 - 5 - After breakfast we will travel to another reserve and go into the highlands in search of Red Deer. We will stop during the day for lunch and once we get back to camp we can have dinner and relax around the campfire.

Day 6 - As most people start getting tired on Saturday after a week of guiding, on the last day we will have a slower paced day. We will spend the day looking for small mammals, butterflies and dragonflies using a butterfly net. We will also look for life in the burns (streams)

Day 7 - You will leave the Cairngorms and be dropped of at the train station or bus stop so you can travel home.
